According to a recent Life Extension Newsletter dated 30 June,2012 medications prescribed for GERD- gastroesophageal reflux disease -currently the 3rd highest class of drugs sold in USA after antipsychotics and statins can lead to complications. I will not detail these except for one namely infection with Clostridium difficile. The precautions and control of such C. difficle infections especially among the elderly and in hospitals may have to be reexamined.
