Cholesterol controversy update

As I see it there are two schools of thought on the issue of cholesterol.
  1. One group views this as a bad body constituent whose level must be controlled.
  2. The other school says that cholesterol is an essential body nutrient produced by the liver and is important in many functions including nerve development (insulation of the myelin sheath).
Cholesterol also plays an important function in neutralizing free radicals, acting as a free radical scavenger. Unfortunately in this scavenging process, it becomes peroxidized and becomes a free radical. It is the peroxidized form of LDL which is believed to be related to the inflammatory process of the lining of arteries: atherosclerosis.

I now realize that this could be the start of a long blog. Stay tuned for an update as I prepare a full document on this topic and paste it into my blog.
