The life style- namely tanning saloons especially when initiated at an early age- may be classified as a carcinogenic life style since it has been associated with the development of melanomas. The correlation of smoking and lung cancer is also well known with the incidence and deaths from this cancer now ranking as number 1 for both males and females. Since the delivery of Health Care services in Canada is a public responsibility and presumably paid for by all Canadian citizens, it seems reasonable for governments to pass legislation to eliminate these and other such risk factors.
In Ontario it is encouraging to note that some local governments have already either passed and/or planning legislation banning teenagers from tanning saloons. It seems that no such legislation- by any level of governments - are planned for smoking among teenagers. Instead the federal government is spending millions of taxpayers dollars on advertising policies of tobacco companies to discourage smoking among teenagers instead of passing legislation to make it illegal for farmers to grow tobacco, tobacco companies to manufacture and/or sell tobacco products like cigarettes, and for the federal government to collect billions of dollars in "sin " tax dollars.
Footnote- I always like to add footnotes to my blogs. For this blog the footnote is: " Such banning of carcinogenic lifestyles should not be restricted to our youth but applied to all age groups".
