In Ontario some local municipaal governments have and/or are planning legislation banning teenagers from attending tanning saloons.
The correlative evidence of smoking and lung cancer is well know for decades. This life style has resulted in smoking becoming not only the leading cause of cancer deaths among males but according to Dr. Gifford Jones has now surpassed breast cancer as the leading cause of cancer deaths among women.
Since health care in Canada is a public budgeted service paid for by all levels of government it is time for these jurisdictions to pass legislation to not only make it illegial for farmers to grow tobacco, but for tobacco companies to manufacture cigarettes and other products and for local businesses to distribute and sell tobacco products- and of course for governments to collect their billions from tax revenues when these products are sold.
I might add that I had proposed this idea in a letter to our federal government
