Today (Feb 03/2014) I heard a TV news report that a person was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine cancer. The tumor was located not in the brain but in the stomach and apparently was successfully removed surgically. There was no mention in their report that neuroendocrine cancers like the melanomas basically are cancers of the brain and/or central nervous system and not of the tissue or organs to which these embryonic tissue cells have migrated, skin for the melanomas and stomach in the case of this neuroendocrine tumor. Some embryologists also include phaeochromacytomas and insulinomas while others various skeletal and soft tissues in the fascial region in this category.
Besides being of importance to the anatomists (embryologists) this knowledge of embryologic origin should also be of importance not only to oncologists for treatment but also to the epidemiologists when they compile their vital statics on cancers.
Medical profession might wish to review review the embryology of organogenesis. They would better appreciate diagnosis and management of orthopaedic Medicine ( referred pain) as well as , treatment of hypertension, cancer, and other diseases.
