What if

What might have been

The morning of Oct 07/2011 after I had picked up the local newspaper and had just scanned the Obituary column my eye caught one of the inserts, namely the WAVE magazine- Winnipeg’s Health and Wellness Magazine. It was the Sept/Oct 2011 issue.
I flipped through the pages of this magazine, stopping when I got to the section on science and research where I began reading about breast cancer research conducted at the Manitoba Institute of Cell Biology ( MICB). In a small framed section of this article, the author mentions that this lab is located in the Cancer Care Building. On reading this insert further I noted that the MICB- and I quote- “was established in 1969 by the late Dr. Lionel Israels to provide a focus for research into biology and its relation to health , with a primary emphasis on cancer and related diseases”.
Historians researching the U. of M - more specifically the MICB might be interested in some of my own memorabilia . I have gathered these events and summarized them in a document or folder labelled “ what if “. Check for future updates of this post.

  1. In rereading this blog I noted that in 1969 Dr. Lionel Israels established the MICB-manitoba Institute of Cell Biology- the period coincided with the dissolution of the Einnipeg Clinic Research institute of which I was the director. Dissolution of this research facility results in the board of Directors of thenWCRIL donating the equipment to the U of M medical School. I applied to Der. Israels lab for possible employment . My knowledge in techniques related to DNA cytophotometry and analysis of stages of cell cycle would have ten a great asset to his lab- He never acknowledged my application for potential employment at the lab
