Review of recent Life Extension Newsletters showed that many in our population -including children - may be deficient in Vitamin D. This report also showed that deficiency of this sunshine hormone, may be linked with autism as well as Parkinson's. Did the scientists who did these studies compare the level of Vitamin D of the autistic and non autistic children?
I recall many hears ago I had proposed the theory that SIDS-sudden infant death syndrome - may be linked to another vitamin deficiency, namely Vit C. The mechanics of my theory was that SIDS usually develops after the victims have received their first vaccinations. Vaccinations are very stressful not only to the parents but also to the victims. Smoking is also known to reduce the level of ascorbic acid. In my 35 years of medical practice I had 2 infants who died of SIDS and in both cases the mothers were heavy smokers. I had this theory published in The Medical Post many years ago but as often happens to theories and ideas they are often ignored. Vit C is essential for the synthesis of the anti-stress chemicals like cortisol. In the case of SIDS the medical establishment in Canada gave instructions to the mothers to tuck their infants in their cribs on their backs rather than face down. To my knowledge no biochemical analysis was done on the SIDS victims. Now thats research. Have they studied to see how long the infants keep this supine position?
The human body is a complex machine with many systems operating simultaneously. Maybe a deficiency in both these vitamins or other nutrients play a role it the development of autism, Parkinson's , and other neurological diseases. Maybe when we vaccinate our infants we should first exclude vitamin deficiencies and/or other essential nutrients. Maybe rather than removing the preservatives from the vaccines we should be adding nutrients and/or other supplements. To both groups in the "autistic arena"- the concerned mothers and the scientific investigators - I would just like to add " It seems like you both were on the right track but on the wrong train".
